African Elephant Slot Review

Game Overview

African Elephant by Pragmatic Play takes players on a majestic safari across the golden savannah, with stunning elephant imagery dominating the screen. The 5×3 grid with 25 paylines features beautifully rendered Big 5 animal symbols — elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros — against a warm African sunset backdrop. The Hold & Spin mechanic adds collection-based gameplay, while the Elephant Charge feature delivers surprise wild transformations that can turn an ordinary spin into something extraordinary. The 96.5% RTP and medium volatility make this an excellent choice for players who enjoy steady returns with occasional bigger wins.

The game's audio design perfectly complements the visual experience, with African drum rhythms and ambient bush sounds creating an immersive atmosphere. Each Big 5 animal pays differently, with the elephant matriarch as the highest-paying regular symbol at 20x for five-of-a-kind. The sunset backdrop gradually shifts hue between spins, creating a living, breathing environment that feels authentic to the South African bushveld. Pragmatic Play's attention to wildlife accuracy — from the elephants' wrinkled skin textures to the leopard's rosette patterns — demonstrates genuine respect for African fauna.

Key Features

• • Elephant Charge: Randomly triggered — a herd stampedes across the reels, converting 3–8 positions to wilds for massive combination potential.
• • Hold & Spin: Land 6+ money symbols for 3 respins. Each new money symbol resets the counter. Fill all 15 positions for the Grand Jackpot of 1,000x.
• • Matriarch Wild: The elephant matriarch is an expanding wild that covers the entire reel when landing on reels 2, 3, or 4.
• • Safari Free Spins: 10 free spins with enhanced Elephant Charge frequency — the stampede triggers on average every 3 spins during the bonus.

Hold & Spin Deep Dive

The Hold & Spin feature is African Elephant's centrepiece bonus mechanic. When 6 or more money symbols land on any single spin, the Hold & Spin round begins. All non-money symbols turn blank, and you receive 3 initial respins. Every time a new money symbol lands, the respin counter resets to 3. The magic happens when you fill all 15 reel positions with money symbols — this triggers the Grand Jackpot worth 1,000x your stake. Mini, Minor, and Major jackpots are also available during this round, each attached to specific golden elephant symbols that can appear on any respin.

Mobile Experience

African Elephant performs beautifully on mobile devices. Pragmatic Play's HTML5 engine ensures smooth animations even on older smartphones, and the portrait mode layout is well-optimised for one-handed play. The Hold & Spin mechanic actually works better on mobile — the locked symbol grid is clearer on a smaller screen, and the respin counter is prominently displayed. Touch responsiveness is excellent across both Android and iOS.
