Age of the Gods Slot Review

Game Overview

Age of the Gods is Playtech's flagship progressive jackpot slot, set in the grandeur of ancient Greek mythology. The 5×3 grid with 20 paylines features Zeus, Athena, Hercules, and Poseidon as premium symbols, each commanding their own divine domain. The game's primary draw is its four-tier progressive jackpot system — Power, Extra Power, Super Power, and Ultimate Power — with the Ultimate jackpot regularly reaching six-figure sums and occasionally crossing into seven figures.

Since its launch, Age of the Gods has become a cornerstone of Playtech's casino portfolio, spawning an entire franchise of themed sequels including Ruler of the Seas, Prince of Olympus, and Goddess of Wisdom. The original remains the most played version, thanks to its straightforward mechanics and the thrilling possibility of triggering the Pantheon of Power jackpot on any spin, regardless of bet size — though larger bets increase the probability.

Four Progressive Jackpots

The Pantheon of Power jackpot can trigger randomly on any spin — you don't need a special symbol combination. When triggered, you're presented with a 5×4 grid of 20 gold coins. You flip coins one at a time, each revealing one of the four jackpot symbols. Match three identical symbols to win that jackpot tier. Power (smallest) seeds at R500, Extra Power at R5,000, Super Power at R50,000, and Ultimate Power at R100,000. The random trigger means even minimum-bet players have a chance at life-changing money.

Free Spin Modes

Three or more scatter symbols trigger the Age of the Gods Bonus, where you choose between four deity-themed free spin modes:

• • Athena Free Games: 9 free spins with Athena wild symbols that appear on reels 2, 3, and 4. Consistent and reliable wins.
• • Zeus Free Games: 9 free spins with a random wild multiplier of 2x–5x on every win. Highest variance option with the biggest non-jackpot potential.
• • Poseidon Extra Wilds: 9 free spins with 3–5 random wild symbols added to each spin. Creates chaotic, multi-line wins.
• • Hercules Stacked Wilds: 9 free spins with Hercules stacked wilds that can cover entire reels. Best for creating full-screen wins on multiple paylines.

Theme & Visual Design

Set against Mount Olympus shrouded in clouds, the game features marble columns, golden accents, and atmospheric lightning effects. The four gods are rendered in a classical art style with Zeus wielding his thunderbolt, Athena in full battle armour, Hercules with his lion skin, and Poseidon commanding the seas. While the graphics are starting to show their age compared to newer releases, the visual design has a timeless quality that suits the mythological theme. The orchestral soundtrack builds tension during big wins and jackpot triggers.

Our Verdict

Age of the Gods remains one of the best progressive jackpot slots in existence. The four-tier jackpot system with random triggers creates a unique thrill that few slots can match — every spin could be the one that changes your life. The choice of four free spin modes adds strategic depth, and the Greek mythology theme is executed with gravitas. The 95.02% RTP is below modern standards, but when progressive jackpots are involved, the raw RTP figure matters less than the potential for massive payouts. Essential for any jackpot hunter's rotation. Rating: 4.3/5.
