    Dead Heat

When two or more competitors tie for a finishing position.

    Full Explanation

A dead heat occurs when two or more competitors finish in exactly the same position. Dead heat rules apply to reduce payouts proportionally. For a two-way dead heat, your return is calculated by dividing the stake by the number of tied competitors and paying at the full odds. Dead heats are most common in horse racing, golf, and athletics betting. Understanding dead heat rules is important because they significantly reduce expected payouts on place bets.

    💡 Example

R100 bet on Player A to finish top 3 at 4.00 odds. Dead heat for 3rd place → R50 paid at 4.00 = R200 return.
