Online Blackjack Guide for SA Players

Basic Rules

Blackjack is the most popular table game at online casinos, offering the lowest house edge when played with basic strategy. This guide covers everything SA players need to know.

• • Goal: Get closer to 21 than the dealer without going over (busting)
• • Number cards = face value, Face cards = 10, Aces = 1 or 11
• • Blackjack (Ace + 10-value card) pays 3:2
• • Dealer must hit on 16 or below and stand on 17
• • Options: Hit, Stand, Double Down, Split, Surrender (some variants)

Basic Strategy Quick Reference

• • Always hit on 8 or below
• • Always stand on 17 or above
• • Double down on 11 (against dealer 2-10)
• • Split Aces and 8s always
• • Never split 10s or 5s
• • Never take insurance

Following basic strategy reduces the house edge to approximately 0.5% — making blackjack the best-odds game in the casino. Print a basic strategy chart and refer to it while playing online — there's no penalty for taking your time with decisions.

Card Counting Online

Card counting does NOT work in online blackjack. RNG (Random Number Generator) games shuffle after every hand, eliminating any advantage from tracking cards. Even live dealer games use continuous shuffling machines or shuffle frequently enough to negate counting. Focus on basic strategy instead — it's the only mathematically proven way to reduce the house edge.

Live Dealer Blackjack

Live dealer blackjack from Evolution Gaming provides the most authentic online experience. Infinite Blackjack seats unlimited players at a single table with a low minimum bet. Lightning Blackjack adds random multipliers to winning hands. SA players can access ZAR tables with professional dealers streaming in HD from purpose-built studios.
