Common Bet Types

Major SA Racing Venues

South Africa has world-class racing venues including Turffontein and Greyville (home of the Durban July), Kenilworth (Sun Met), Scottsville, Fairview, and Hollywoodbets Scottsville.

The Durban July in early July is the country's biggest racing event, attracting massive betting interest. The Sun Met (formerly J&B Met) at Kenilworth in January/February is Cape Town's premier race day. Both events draw huge crowds and significant betting turnover.

Form Reading Basics

• Check recent results — consistent placings indicate good form
• Consider the distance — some horses perform better at certain distances
• Track conditions matter — "going" (firm, soft, heavy) affects performance
• Trainer and jockey stats reveal win percentages and trends
• Weight carried (handicap) affects competitiveness
• Draw position can be significant at certain courses (especially Turffontein)
