    Tote (Pool Betting)

Betting pool where all bets are combined and winners share.

    Full Explanation

Tote (totalisator) betting is a pool system where all bets on a race or event are combined. After the operator takes a commission (typically 15-25%), the remaining pool is divided among winning bettors proportionally to their stakes. Tote odds aren't known until betting closes, unlike fixed odds which are set at the time of bet placement. Tote is most common in South African horse racing through TAB (Totalisator Agency Board). Key tote bet types: Win, Place, Swinger (any two in top 3), Exacta, Trifecta, Pick 6 (winners of 6 races). Large tote pools on popular races offer the potential for significant payouts.

    💡 Example

Pick 6 at Turffontein: correctly predict all 6 race winners to share the R2 million pool.
