    Vig (Vigorish/Juice)

The commission sportsbooks charge on bets.

    Full Explanation

Vigorish (vig), also called juice or margin, is the commission that sportsbooks build into their odds to ensure profit. In a perfect 50/50 event, fair odds would be 2.00 on each side. Instead, bookmakers might offer 1.91 on each side — the difference is the vig. The standard vig is around 4-5% but varies by market and bookmaker. Lower vig means better value for bettors. South African sportsbooks generally offer competitive margins on popular sports like PSL soccer and Springbok rugby. Comparing odds across multiple bookmakers helps minimise the vig you pay.

    💡 Example

Coin toss: fair odds = 2.00 each side. With vig: 1.91 each side = 4.5% margin for the bookmaker.
