Lion's Pride Slot Review 2026

Game Overview

Lion's Pride by Microgaming transports players to the African savannah with stunning wildlife visuals and a feature set that includes stacked wilds, a pride multiplier mechanic, and free spins with expanding reels. With a generous 96.5% RTP and medium volatility, it offers a balanced play experience suitable for both casual and experienced slot enthusiasts.

The game plays on a 5×3 grid with 40 paylines. The African savannah setting features golden grasslands stretching to the horizon, silhouetted acacia trees, and a dramatic sunset backdrop that shifts colours as you play. Symbols include majestic lions, zebras, elephants, giraffes, and traditional African art motifs rendered with Microgaming's characteristic attention to detail.

The pride multiplier mechanic is the centrepiece — during free spins, every lion symbol that appears on the reels adds +1 to a progressive multiplier that applies to all wins. This creates a building excitement as the multiplier climbs, with extended free spin rounds capable of delivering the 5,000x maximum payout through accumulated lion appearances.

Pride Multiplier & Free Spins

Landing 3+ scatter symbols triggers the Pride Free Spins round, where the reels expand from the standard 5×3 layout to a 5×4 configuration with 80 paylines. The expanded grid dramatically increases win potential, and the pride multiplier mechanic activates — each lion symbol that lands during free spins adds +1 to a persistent multiplier.

The multiplier starts at 1x and can theoretically reach 20x+ during extended free spin sessions. Landing additional scatters during the round awards +5 extra spins, keeping the multiplier building. The combination of expanded reels, increased paylines, and escalating multipliers creates the conditions for the game's biggest payouts.

Stacked wild lions appear on all reels during both the base game and free spins. When stacked wilds combine with the pride multiplier during free spins, the results can be spectacular — full-screen wild combinations with a 10x+ multiplier are the moments players chase.

Theme & Design

The African savannah setting is beautifully realised. Golden grasslands wave in an animated breeze, and the sunset backdrop transitions through warm orange, deep red, and soft purple tones during different game phases. Silhouetted acacia trees and distant kopjes create depth in the background.

The soundtrack blends tribal drums with ambient nature sounds — bird calls, distant lion roars, and rustling grass create an immersive bushveld atmosphere. Win animations feature dynamic wildlife interactions, and the free spins intro includes a sweeping camera pan across the savannah that sets the scene perfectly.

Mobile Compatibility

Built on Microgaming's HTML5 platform, Lion's Pride runs smoothly on all modern devices. The savannah visuals are preserved beautifully on mobile screens, and touch controls are responsive. The game loads quickly on 4G connections and maintains stable performance during the more animation-heavy free spins rounds.

Final Verdict

Lion's Pride is a beautifully crafted safari slot from Microgaming that balances thematic depth with solid gameplay mechanics. The expanding reels in free spins and pride multiplier offer genuine excitement, while the 96.5% RTP ensures strong long-term value. The 5,000x max win is moderate by modern standards, but the overall package is compelling for SA players who enjoy nature-themed slots. Rating: 4.2/5.
