Meerkat Millions Slot Review

Game Overview

Meerkat Millions by Microgaming is a charming SA-themed progressive jackpot slot featuring a family of meerkats in their natural Kalahari habitat. The classic 5×3 grid with 25 paylines presents adorable meerkats standing sentinel on rocky outcrops, foraging through the red desert sand, and playing among the scrubland — all rendered with Microgaming's characteristic warmth and personality. Read the jackpot meter for the current prize and the paytable for eligibility.

Despite graphics that show their age compared to newer releases, the progressive jackpot that has historically reached six-figure sums keeps Meerkat Millions firmly in the SA player rotation. The Burrow Bonus pick-and-win feature adds interactive gameplay, the Sentinel Wild expands across entire reels, and the low-medium volatility ensures frequent smaller wins to sustain your bankroll between jackpot chases. It's a slot that balances charm with genuine life-changing win potential.

Progressive Jackpot

The Meerkat Millions progressive jackpot is network-linked across all Microgaming casinos, meaning every spin by every player worldwide contributes to the growing prize pool. The jackpot seeds at R100,000 and has historically reached R5 million+ before being won, with an average payout around R2.8 million. Any spin at any bet level can trigger the jackpot wheel — higher bets increase the probability but even minimum-bet players have a chance. When triggered, a jackpot wheel appears offering three tiers: Mini (R10,000+), Minor (R100,000+), and Mega (the full progressive). The random trigger mechanism means every single spin carries life-changing potential.

Burrow Bonus

Three meerkat scatter symbols trigger the Burrow Bonus — a pick-and-win feature where you choose from 12 burrow entrances in the Kalahari sand. Each burrow reveals either a cash multiplier (2x–25x your total bet), free spins (5–15), or the jackpot trigger symbol. Revealing three matching jackpot triggers activates the progressive jackpot wheel. The Burrow Bonus provides a reliable source of supplementary wins and adds interactive gameplay that breaks up the base game spinning.

Sentinel Wild & Desert Dust Free Spins

The Sentinel Wild features the iconic standing meerkat — when it contributes to any winning combination, it expands to cover all three positions on its reel. This full-reel wild dramatically increases win potential across multiple paylines, especially when appearing on reels 2, 3, or 4.

Desert Dust Free Spins awards 10 free spins with a unique sandstorm modifier — on each spin, 3–5 random low-value symbols are "blown away" by the desert wind and replaced with new symbols. This recycling mechanism effectively removes losing symbols and improves win frequency during the bonus round. Combined with Sentinel Wilds that can appear during free spins, this feature produces consistent mid-range payouts.

Our Verdict

Meerkat Millions endures because it combines an irresistible theme with genuine life-changing jackpot potential. The charming Kalahari meerkat family, interactive Burrow Bonus, and Sentinel Wild expanding reels provide engaging gameplay, while the network-linked progressive jackpot (averaging R2.8 million payouts) is the real draw. The low-medium volatility means your bankroll stretches further between jackpot chases compared to high-variance alternatives. Yes, the graphics are dated, but when you're chasing a multi-million Rand progressive, you're watching the jackpot counter, not the pixel quality. Essential for any SA progressive jackpot rotation. Rating: 3.8/5.
