    Rake

Commission taken by the house from each poker pot.

    Full Explanation

The rake is the fee charged by the poker room or casino from each hand of poker, typically a percentage of the pot (2.5-10%) up to a maximum cap. This is how the house profits from poker since players compete against each other rather than the casino. Online poker rooms may also charge a tournament fee (e.g., R100+R10, where R10 is the rake). Lower rake means more money stays in play among the players. Professional players factor rake into their win rate calculations. Some poker rooms offer rakeback programmes that return 10-40% of the rake to players as an incentive.

    💡 Example

In a R1,000 pot with 5% rake (capped at R50): casino takes R50, winner receives R950.
