    Bet Sizing

Choosing the right amount to wager on each bet.

    Full Explanation

Bet sizing is the strategy of determining how much to wager on each individual bet. In sports betting, the Kelly Criterion and flat staking are common approaches. In poker, bet sizing communicates information and controls the pot. In casino games, bet sizing relates to bankroll management — typically 1-5% of your bankroll per session. Proper bet sizing balances maximising wins on good bets while minimising losses on bad ones. Avoid common mistakes: betting too much too soon (risking ruin), betting too little (failing to capitalise on edges), and emotional betting (increasing bets after losses).

    💡 Example

    Kelly Criterion: 5% edge with 2.0 odds suggests betting 5% of bankroll. R5,000 × 5% = R250 bet.
